PS2 keyboard not working in Vista neither at boot time, but works with a Linux Live CD. The hardware seems ok, because it works with a Linux Live CD, but I cannot access BIOS setup because it doesn't work at boot time. I use a USB keyboard for Vista, but it doesn't work till logon screen. So I'm in a bootstrap: I have to setup "USB legacy
PS/2 keyboards and mice are not designed to be unplugged when the power is turned on. You need to see if the keyboard will work during the "boot up" process by accessing the CMOS / BIOS set up screen. If the keyboard does not work, you would then need to remove to BIOS / CMOS coin-cell battery and re-insert it.

Then the PS2 mouse stopped working so I switched to a USB KVM switch which was not recognized by Linux, Keyboard switching did not work, only manual switching at box. I now have purchased a new PS2 mouse and re-installed the PS2 KVM switch but I cannot get windows 8.1 to recognize either the PS2 mouse or keyboard.
The keyboard itsself is a standard PS/2 keyboard The windows driver used is as follows: Driver C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\I8042PRT.SYS (10.0.22000.653) No idea if thats helpful in any way but I thought Id add it. Im fairly new to Linux/Ubuntu so im not sure what commands to run on the command line for useful information to help diagnose the issue.

FengLengshun. • 2 yr. ago. As far as I know, you just run the PCSX2 until you got to the main menu, then in the menu bar choose Config > Gamepad Settings, it should automatically pick your keyboard up as Gamepad.0 (Player One). IMHO the default layout is pretty logical, though you can of course rebind everything by clicking on the button name
Windows XP machine that suddenly had the mouse & keyboard stop working. I have tried USB mice, USB keyboards, PS/2 mice and PS/2 keyboards and all of them behave (or don't behave) the same way. The mouse & keyboard work fine on other systems and are 100% known to work. The mouse & keyboard don't work in Safe Mode or regular Windows XP.
Run HP Support Assistant to update all the drivers. Once all the drivers are updated check if the keyboard works. Create a restore point again and enable Windows updates. If the keyboard stops working again, you can do a system restore. Will do some more research and get back to you.
Here is everything to try to fix a keyboard: Run the Hardware Troubleshooter: Type CMD in Search box, Run Command Prompt as Administrator, copy and paste or type the following command followed by Enter key: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic. Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter at Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
1) Powered the computer off, and connected the mouse to the PS/2 port. 2) With no other mouse connected and only a PS/2 keyboard connected, powered on the computer. 3) Using the tab key on the keyboard, navigated to an account that had administrator privilages and signed on. 4) Ran the Windows 8.1 built in "Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
